One of the great benefits that we have today is composite fillings or so called white fillings. In the past, we used amalgam or silver fillings they were called. Today with the composite fillings, you are bonded to the tooth, so they are much stronger where you are actually bonding the structure together and holding the tooth together, where the old silver fillings basically were retentive mechanically and what would happen a lot of times with the old silver type of fillings is that they would actually crack the teeth. Today's bonded fillings, you are actually strengthening the tooth. That in conjunction with onlays and inlays, which are made from composite white material but are made in a laboratory, which are stronger for cases where more forces are used on the biting surfaces and we can replace any filling in your mouth with a composite filling or inlay.
