What Are Partial Dentures?

A partial denture is a set of prosthetic teeth mounted to a plastic base that matches the color of your gums. The denture is fitted with clasps that fit snugly around your remaining teeth, much like a retainer. It is a more immediate and affordable alternative to a dental bridge, which is permanently affixed in place via dental crowns. Because partial dentures are removable, you can remove them for cleaning, making maintenance very simple.

The Treatment Process

We will begin your treatment by conducting an oral health evaluation to determine whether partial dentures are the best choice for you. If any of your remaining teeth are irreparably damaged, decayed, or infected, we may recommend periodontal treatment or an extraction first, along with alternative treatments such as implant-supported dentures.

Designing Your Partial Denture

Your partial denture is designed according to your needs, the look of your smile, and your facial features. Our practice is equipped with SmilePix, software that allows us to digitally show you what you could look like after treatment.

Once any outstanding oral health issues have been addressed, we will take impressions of your smile using our TRIOS® 3Shape intraoral scanner. This innovative technology eliminates the need for putty impressions, which can be messy and uncomfortable, especially for patients with a sensitive gag reflex.

Delivering Your Device

We will use these impressions to design and fabricate your dentures in our in-house lab. When your restoration is ready, you can come back to Astoria Dental Group for your fitting. Our doctors will check your bite and make sure that the denture does not compromise your alignment or biting force. If you are happy with your device, you can take it home and begin enjoying your newly enhanced smile.
