Chipped, worn, or permanently stained teeth can affect the balance and brightness of your entire smile, making you feel self-conscious in social settings and in your personal life.
The cosmetic dentists at Astoria Dental Group are highly sought after, and can create incredibly lifelike porcelain veneers that conceal various imperfections at once.
Why do patients in Queens, Long Island, and throughout NYC turn to Astoria Dental for veneers?
Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin ceramic shells that are bonded directly to the front of your teeth. They are one of the few dentistry options at Astoria Dental that can mask chips, gaps, discoloration, and other aesthetic imperfections in one treatment.
Cosmetic imperfections in your smile can make you feel self-conscious while speaking, dining, or posing for pictures. If minor blemishes have made you feel self-conscious and less likely to smile and laugh, veneers can help.

Can dental veneers meet your needs?
The versatility of these restorations means they can conceal numerous issues, including aesthetic imperfections, such as permanent discoloration including tetracycline stains, as well as the effects of trauma, such as chips.
The Primary Reason Why Patients Choose Veneers
Although there are many cosmetic dentistry treatments available at our dental office, many patients choose veneers because they can cover various cosmetic issues in a relatively short amount of time. For patients with slightly crooked teeth, veneers are a much faster treatment option that orthodontic treatment, which can take several months to complete.
Both traditional veneers and no-prep veneers are optimal choices if you have an important upcoming event such as a wedding, graduation, or job change.
Are you really a good candidate for veneers?
In order to place traditional veneers, our cosmetic dentists will need to remove a small amount of enamel. If you have worn or thin tooth enamel, you may still be a candidate for prepless veneers.
Patients who grind their teeth may subject their veneers to excessive force and premature fracturing. If you grind your teeth, let our cosmetic dentists know. We may provide an oral appliance for protection.
Although veneers can conceal a wide range of cosmetic imperfections, severely crooked teeth or large gaps due to missing teeth will need to be treated using other dentistry solutions such as Invisalign® or dental implants.
Because they need to be replaced every decade or so, veneers are a lifelong investment. If you are not ready to commit to a permanent investment, consider no-prep veneers, which are reversible.
Which type of veneers should you choose?
Traditional Veneers vs. No-Prep LUMINEERS®
Our cosmetic dentists offer two options for patients who are considering veneers: traditional veneers and LUMINEERS. Both can cover a wide range of flaws and deliver natural-looking results. However, traditional veneers require a certain amount of tooth enamel to be removed prior to treatment, while LUMINEERS are much thinner and do not require modification to the tooth structure. Therefore, LUMINEERS are a good choice for patients who want a less invasive, reversible treatment option.
During your consultation, Drs. Degel and Every-Degel will help you decide which option best meets your needs, budget, and goals.
Veneers can be placed on one or more front teeth...
Why choose Astoria Dental Group for your porcelain veneers?
Our Dental Office is Equipped with the Latest Technology
At Astoria Dental Group, we use the latest tools and technology to help patients precisely design their new smiles and deliver predictable, natural-looking results. In addition to having our own on-site dental lab, we use computer smile imaging to help you visualize what you will look like after veneers. This tool allows you to "try on" your new smile before undergoing treatment to ensure that you are satisfied with the proposed plan.
Wondering what to expect during your treatment?
Our Cosmetic Dentists Can Complete Veneers Treatment In Just Two Appointments
During a consultation with Dr. Degel or Dr. Every-Degel, we will discuss your concerns and treatment goals, and determine whether veneers are the best solution for you.
At your first visit, we will prepare each treated tooth by buffing its surface and removing about half a millimeter of enamel. This will ensure a natural-looking, comfortable fit.
At this time, we will also take impressions which will be sent to our dental lab. You will be provided with temporary restorations until your following appointment.
Once the veneers have been fabricated, the restorations will be bonded in place using a tooth-colored dental cement. We may make slight modifications to ensure the best result.
Making Your Veneers Last
Once you leave our office, your veneers can be cared for just like your natural teeth. To protect your oral health, we recommend that you brush and floss twice daily and continue to visit us twice a year for professional cleanings and exams. During these appointments, we can also check the integrity of the restorations.
Although veneers can last for years with proper care, you should take some precautions to avoid chipping the ceramic. Do not:
- Bite your nails
- Chew on pens
- Eat ice
- Open packages with your teeth
All of these habits could potentially fracture the veneers.

Deciding Between Porcelain Veneers and LUMINEERS
Veneers are widely considered the quickest, most lifelike option for transforming the look of your smile from top to bottom. However, in order to place veneers, Drs. Degel and Every-Degel must first remove a conservative amount of enamel to make room for the thin porcelain shells. This is a drawback for many patients who want to preserve as much of their natural tooth structure as possible. For this reason, we offer LUMINEERS® as a minimal-prep alternative at our Queens, NY, practice. During your consultation at Astoria Dental Group, we can help you decide whether veneers or Lumineers is the right choice for you.
Similarities Between Veneers and LUMINEERS
One of the greatest similarities between both options is how they can be used. Both veneers and Lumineers can effectively conceal:
- Minor tooth gaps
- Minor misalignment
- Small chips or cracks
- Jagged or worn teeth
- Misshaped or disproportionate teeth
- Discolored or yellow teeth
Both options are custom-made to match your facial features and desired results. They are made up of thin, hand-layered porcelain that has a lifelike shine and shade. Porcelain is stain-resistant and simple to maintain, which means you can care for your veneers and Lumineers in the same way as natural teeth.
Major Differences Between Treatments
When deciding between the two treatments, however, there are some important differences to consider.
Because Lumineers require less removal of enamel, they are a good choice for patients who have dental anxiety. However, for patients with extensive cosmetic concerns, they may not be the best choice. Lumineers are appropriate for patients who only need minor cosmetic modifications, but they are so thin that they might not provide the most effective coverage of severe discoloration or yellowed teeth. Consequently, traditional veneers are a better choice for patients who need more comprehensive coverage.
Both veneers and Lumineers are ultra-thin, wafer-like porcelain shells. Porcelain veneers typically measure about 0.5mm in thickness, while Lumineers can be as thin as 0.2mm or about the same thickness as a contact lens. Because Lumineers are so thin, however, they may not be the best choice for severe discoloration, which may still be visible through the thin porcelain.
The most notable difference between these restorations is the preparation that the teeth must undergo prior to placement. Prior to placing traditional veneers, one of our dentists will remove a conservative amount of enamel from the selected tooth. Enamel is an important part of your tooth structure and protects the dentin from bacteria that causes cavities. While veneers will protect your teeth once they are in place, they will need to be replaced for the rest of your life to prevent oral health issues.
Alternatively, Lumineers are minimal-prep veneers. They are thin enough that they can be bonded to your tooth without enamel removal.
One of the temporary side effects of porcelain veneers is tooth sensitivity after enamel removal. This is less common with Lumineers. However, regardless of which option you choose, you can enjoy a brilliantly enhanced smile for many years to come.
Not Sure Which One is Right For You?
The only way to determine whether veneers of Lumineers are right for you is to schedule a consultation at Astoria Dental Group. Our doctors will examine the extent of your cosmetic issues and recommend which treatment option will best help you achieve your desired results. To ensure that cost does not make your decision for you, we offer several financing options.
