Here at Astoria Dental Group, dental implants are probably one of the premier things that we offer. I have been doing dental implants now for almost 20 years. The technology has changed greatly over that period of time as well as the philosophy of implant. Today's implants are a lot less invasive for the procedure for the patient. There is basically very little pain involved in it. You are dealing with a patient bone, which does not have nerves, and a lot of patients feel, "Oh, you are drilling into my bone." Bone is basically mineral and there is not a lot of nerve tissue in bone. Today we do not use big surgical procedures with sutures. We do not have to give you a lot of stitches. We use what we call a punch technique, which is basically you walk out with the implant in place in one day and you have a temporary that day on the implant. This is all through the fact that we have now what we call immediate loading implant. Today's implants are designed to go in and immediately start to be used with the temporary crown. That option is tremendous for patients so they do not have to walk around without teeth or with some type of removable appliance. Today's implant success rate, you are looking at 95-98% successful for over 20 years. My philosophy now with implants are, most of the time now I would tell patients if you have a tooth that is beyond saving, an implant is by far the choice to use.
