Experience the Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures
Improved comfort and stability are just the beginning of the many benefits of implant-supported dentures placed at our Queens dental practice. Dr. Clifford Degel and Dr. Carmen Every-Degel have been providing patients from all over New York with the highest quality dental care at Astoria Dental Group since 1990. Dr. Degel is one of the leading implant dentists in the tri-state area, and his expertise and knowledge further distinguishes our practice.
Traditional vs. Implant-Supported Dentures
A traditional denture consists of a plastic base and full arch of replacement teeth that is held in place by suction and dental adhesives. The bonding surface created by these adhesives can weaken over time and cause the denture to slip out of place when chewing, eating, and speaking. Implant-supported dentures are attached to traditional or zirconia implant posts that are embedded in the jawbone for unmatched durability and security.

Preparing for Your Dentures
Before you have your custom denture created at our in-office laboratory, you will need to have dental implants placed. Dr. Degel will carefully plan every step of your treatment for optimal results. When you come in for your implant surgery, Dr. Degel will precisely place the posts in your jaw. Some patients will require as few as four dental implants, but each case is unique and we will determine the appropriate plan based on your needs.
Following your implant procedure, the posts will be allowed to heal and fuse with the bone during a process called osseointegration. Dr. Degel will take impressions and images of your mouth that will be used to craft your customized denture. When your prosthetic teeth are ready, Dr. Degel will attach them to the implants via abutments, snaps, or a bar, depending on what type of dentures you choose. He will make any necessary adjustments to ensure your comfort and satisfaction.
Restoring Function, Aesthetics, and Health
When your dentures are held in place by dental implants, you can enjoy improved confidence while you eat and speak. Traditional denture patients often avoid foods that are crunchy, chewy, or tough because they are worried that their prosthetics will slip out of place. These patients might also mumble or slur their speech. With implant-supported dentures, there is no need to worry about these concerns because your prosthetics are fixed in place.
Implant-supported dentures are attached to posts that are embedded in the jawbone for unmatched durability and security.
Implant-supported dentures can even improve your overall oral health. Following tooth loss, the jawbone can begin to degenerate because it has stopped receiving stimulation from the natural tooth's roots. A dental implant replaces a tooth's root, maintaining a dense and healthy jaw.
Traditional dentures also rest on the gums which can wear them down over time. These problems can require periodic adjustments and refitting of the dentures to ensure a proper fit. With implant-supported dentures, your prosthetic will require little maintenance, while maintaining your jaw health and a natural-looking appearance.
