Astoria Dental Group has 30+ years of experience and a suite of dental veneer options to create the designer smile of your dreams.

Our portfolio includes revolutionary FirstFit® veneers that allow our Queens, NY, practice to create a custom smile in one visit.

What Are Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin shells of medical-grade porcelain that are custom designed to fit on the fronts of the teeth. At Astoria Dental Group serving Long Island City and all of Queens, NY, we use high-quality porcelain, which beautifully mimics the translucency of natural tooth enamel.

Our dentists take a comprehensive approach to designing custom porcelain veneers. We address the imperfections you want to hide, and we also consider how the veneer design can enhance your facial profile. Natural-looking symmetry is the hallmark of a beautiful smile.

In this clip, Dr. Clifford Degel talks about porcelain veneers, a cosmetic treatment that can dramatically enhance the appearance of your smile.

Common problems that bring patients to our practice for porcelain veneers include:

  • Chipped teeth

  • Cracked teeth

  • Discolored teeth

  • Misshapen teeth

  • Slight misalignment

  • Overcrowding

  • Gapped teeth

  • Short teeth

Why Choose Astoria Dental Group?

A Full Suite of Veneer Choices

We offer a wide variety of veneer options, which allows us to customize your smile while also creating a better fit for your lifestyle. Our FirstFit veneers can be completed in just one appointment, while Lumineers can free patients from the lifetime commitment to veneers.

Experience

Drs. Degel and Every-Degel have led Astoria Dental Group since 1991, helping residents in Long Island City, Queens, and throughout NYC achieve beautiful, healthy smiles. An accomplished dentist, Dr. Clifford Degel has been featured in Vogue and on "Top Docs."

Comprehensive Care

Our practice offers a full range of services, including implants. Patients can receive convenient care whether they live in nearby Long Island City or another neighborhood in NYC. Veneer patients often choose to enhance their smiles with additional treatments, such as gum contouring or teeth whitening.

Affordability

Unfortunately, insurance usually does not cover cosmetic dentistry procedures. To help patients overcome this obstacle, we offer flexible financing options, such as through CareCredit®, Proceed Financing® and Alphaeon.

Traditional Veneers vs. No-Prep LUMINEERS

Our cosmetic dentists offer traditional dental veneers and Lumineers®. Both are suitable for covering a wide range of flaws while delivering natural-looking results.

While both types of veneers are similar, there are important differences you will want to consider. During your consultation, our cosmetic dentists will help you decide which option best meets your needs, budget, and goals.

Traditional Porcelain Veneers

Traditional porcelain veneers require a small amount of tooth enamel to be removed. This helps the veneers sit flush with your natural tooth structure without appearing bulky. However, this step means there is no "turning back" once enamel has been removed from your tooth. You will always need to maintain a restoration on the tooth to protect it. Traditional porcelain veneers are thicker, which makes them better at hiding flaws of the underlying tooth. Traditional veneers tend to cost a little more than Lumineers.

Ask About Traditional Veneers

Lumineers

Lumineers are not just thin like veneers: they are ultra-thin. This means you won't need to have any enamel removed to get Lumineers. If you think you'll change your mind about veneers, you can relax knowing that Lumineers can be removed and won't need to be replaced. However, since Lumineers are so thin, they are less effective at hiding flaws. Lumineer candidates tend to need only minimal aesthetic changes, or changes that require increasing the size of a tooth. Lumineers tend to cost a little less than traditional veneers.

Our FirstFit Method is Transforming the World of Veneers

Traditional porcelain veneers take weeks to complete, from preparing the teeth to getting your veneers back from a dental lab. In between prep and placement, you are forced to wear temporary veneers, which can sometimes be uncomfortable.

Now imagine walking in for your first veneers appointment and walking out on the same day with a new smile. That is the FirstFit difference.

FirstFit veneers at Astoria Dental Group shrinks the treatment timeline to just a few hours. Using high-end digital imaging systems at our on-site dental lab, we can digitally plan your case and then use 3D printing to prepare a tray of veneers with a perfect fit. The procedure is less invasive than traditional veneers since our surgical guides limit how much enamel is removed.

While not suitable in every case, FirstFit dental veneers can be used to improve the color, size, alignment, and spacing of a tooth. The key benefits of FirstFit include:

  • Conserves more natural tooth structure
  • Your restoration takes just one dental appointment
  • You will not need to wear temporary veneers
  • You approve the veneer design before any steps are taken
  • The computer-aided designs ensure better quality, fit, function, and aesthetics

Why We Use Porcelain To Craft Dental Veneers

porcelain veneers within a patient's smile

Veneers are an incredibly popular cosmetic dentistry treatment, and they can be created from a variety of materials, including composite resin and porcelain. At our practice in Queens, we prefer porcelain veneers to resin veneers for their:

Natural Appearance

Composite resin veneers can give you great cosmetic results, but they lack the lifelike look that porcelain veneers provide. While composite veneers can also be matched to the shade of your teeth, they often develop a dull, artificial look over time. Porcelain veneers mimic the light-reflecting qualities of natural enamel. When color-matched to your smile, porcelain veneers are virtually indistinguishable from real teeth.

Longer Lifespan

Porcelain is much more durable than composite resin. It also has greater stain resistance. Composite resin is a porous material, which means it can become discolored more easily. Porcelain can remain bright and beautiful even when exposed to dark foods and liquids. While composite resin veneers last for five to seven years on average, you can expect your porcelain veneers to last 15 years or longer with proper care.

Frequently Asked Questions About Veneers

Q. Do veneers hurt?

A. Veneers are virtually painless. While traditional veneers require some enamel to be removed, they should not be painful. If at any time you are uncomfortable, let your dental team know immediately so they can address your pain promptly.

Q. How long do veneers last?

A. With proper care and maintenance, your porcelain veneers can last for 15 years or longer. However, they will wear over time and will need to be replaced. Your dental team will provide you with all the info you need to properly maintain your new smile for years to come.

Q. How do I care for my veneers?

A. You will care for your new smile just as you would your natural teeth. Remember to brush and floss twice a day. It is also important to be mindful of hard or sticky foods. If possible chew or bite those foods with teeth that do not have a veneer. Do not use your teeth to bite your nails or open packages.

Q. Why not use professional whitening treatments to address discoloration?

A. While whitening can remove surface stains, veneers are a great option for intrinsic stains. These stains are beneath the enamel and do not respond to whitening treatments. Veneers conceal these deep strains to brighten your smile.

Q. What is the difference between a veneer and a crown?

A. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped covering placed over the entirety of a damaged or decayed tooth. A veneer is a thin shell that fits over just the front surface of a tooth. A dental crown covers the whole tooth to provide strength and is most often used on teeth with severe damage or on a tooth following a root canal. Veneers are better for more minor cosmetic damages.
