Porcelain crowns are caps that are placed over the surface of teeth, reinforcing weakened structure and masking chips, cracks, and discoloration. They are often placed after root canal therapy has been completed. Porcelain crowns are placed at our New York City practice to repair a damaged tooth, correctly align a patient’s bite, even out the overall appearance of a smile, or serve as anchors for a dental bridge. These beautiful, custom-made restorations are durable, long-lasting, and look just like your natural teeth.
At Astoria Dental Group, we believe that porcelain crowns represent the perfect marriage of form and function. Porcelain is an ideal material for dental restorations, as it tenaciously bonds to teeth to restore and improve the strength of your bite. In addition, porcelain provides a natural, stain-resistant luster with the subtle translucence of natural teeth, making all- porcelain crowns a particularly good choice for front teeth. In nearly all cases, it is impossible to distinguish porcelain crowns from your natural teeth!
Crowns are placed in two visits: In the first visit, one of our cosmetic dentists will take an impression of your teeth and place a temporary crown while the permanent restoration is being crafted in the dental lab. In the second visit, about two weeks after the first, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is placed.

If your smile has imperfections such as gaps, chips, or worn-down teeth, you don’t have to put up with them anymore! Composite bonding is a quick, painless way to transform your smile.
Composite dental bonding is one of the simplest and most conservative ways of masking minor imperfections in your smile, including cracks, chips, gaps, and discoloration. We perform composite bonding at our Manhattan area practice by coating the affected area with tooth-colored resin or plastic. This material is then cured and bonded to the tooth with a high-intensity light. The resulting restoration looks and functions just like natural tooth enamel and can be carefully sculpted to lengthen a tooth, fill in a chip, widen a tooth to mask a gap, and much more.
In some cases, composite bonding can be an alternative to porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns, and even Invisalign® invisible braces. If your teeth and jaws have serious alignment problems that affect the function of your mouth, however, Invisalign® might be a better choice. We suggest that you come in for a consultation so our dentists can examine your mouth and recommend the best course of treatment for you.

If you are missing a tooth or series of teeth, all-porcelain dental bridges may offer the ideal solution. At our Manhattan area practice, we place dental bridges that provide a natural appearance, reduce a patient’s risk of gum disease, and correct speech and bite difficulties. In addition, dental bridges eliminate the possibility that your remaining teeth will shift to fill the gap left by a missing tooth.
Dental bridges consist of a custom-made false tooth supported on either side by one or two porcelain crowns, or composite bonding material. The dental bridge is used to aesthetically eliminate the gap left by a missing tooth, giving the patient a decade or more of comfortable wear and beautiful smiles.
There are several types of dental bridges, each chosen according to your needs and the location of the missing tooth:
Dental bridges, regardless of type, are placed in two visits. In your first appointment, Dr. Degel or Dr. Every-Degel will prepare the teeth surrounding the gap, then take an impression and place a temporary bridge. The impression is used as a guide for the crafting of the bridge's false tooth and crowns. You will wear the temporary bridge until your next appointment, during which your permanent bridge will be cemented into place, fitted, checked, and adjusted.
At Astoria Dental Group, you can be sure that all the dental bridges we place are long-wearing, completely natural-looking, and comfortable. To learn more about the advantages of dental bridges, contact our Manhattan-area practice today.
Like fillings, inlays and onlays restore areas of a tooth that are damaged by decay or trauma. While fillings are composed of a soft resin or plastic composite that is molded into place and then hardened during the dental visit, inlays and onlays are crafted in the dental lab from hard ceramic material and permanently cemented to the tooth during a follow-up visit. Inlays fill cavities in the middle of the tooth surface, and onlays restore a damaged cusp to provide added support. These premium dental restorations can last for many years with proper care.
Porcelain veneers are unmatched in their ability to create an instant smile makeover. Veneers are thin, custom-crafted shells of luminous porcelain that are tenaciously bonded to the teeth to mask discoloration, chips, misalignment, and other imperfections, while maintaining the function of your mouth.
Enjoy a movie-star smile with professional Zoom!® or BriteSmile® teeth whitening treatments. Physician-supervised teeth whitening is safe for your tooth enamel, quickly and effectively lifting stains left by tea, coffee, tobacco, wine, and other staining substances to reveal a new, whiter smile.
