Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Wisdom teeth typically emerge when a person is between the ages of 17 and 24. As wisdom teeth grow, they often become impacted, which means there is not enough space for them at the back of the mouth. When wisdom teeth are impacted, they can cause a variety of painful symptoms, including pain, swelling, infection, damage to adjacent teeth, and jaw stiffness. Wisdom tooth extraction is a common and often medically necessary procedure. At our New York City practice, we work to make the procedure as comfortable and relaxing as possible, so there are no surprises and your life is disrupted as little as possible.

Comprehensive Dental Exams

Dental exams are the cornerstone of good dental health. Maintaining your oral health is the best way to avoid having to endure pain, tooth loss, and costly restorative procedures in the future. At Astoria Dental Group, a typical dental visit includes: A careful check of your teeth, gums, mouth and throat, a head and neck exam, a clinical dental exam, a full set of digital tomography X-rays, and a dental cleaning. During such comprehensive exams, our dentists check for cancer, gum disease, tooth decay, tooth-grinding problems, and much more.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy becomes necessary when a tooth’s root chamber becomes infected by decay. Extensive tooth decay or an injury can cause serious damage and infection to the nerves and vessels in the dental pulp, making root canal therapy necessary to save the tooth. During the root canal procedure, one of our dentists will clean out the infected pulp chamber inside your tooth and repair the damage to relieve pain and clear the infection. Following root canal therapy, our dentist restores the form and function of treated teeth with all-porcelain crowns.

TMJ Disorder Treatment

If you clench and grind your teeth, you may have a disorder of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). TMJ disorder can cause pain and sensitivity in the teeth, jaw, and face, and even effect the neck and shoulders. Additional symptoms include headache, ringing in the ears, and popping or clicking sounds during chewing. This common condition can greatly compromise your oral and general health, but effective treatment options are available, including splints to realign the bite and BOTOX® to relax clenched jaw muscles.

Periodontal Treatments

Do your gums bleed when you floss? Are they red and puffy looking? If so, you may be exhibiting the early signs of gum disease. This condition is extremely common, yet left untreated, can have dire consequences for your oral and general health. Periodontal treatments effectively improve the health of the gums, laying the foundation for a healthier mouth for years to come. Sedation Dentistry

At Astoria Dental Group your comfort and relaxation are our number one priorities. We understand trips to the dentist instill some level of anxiety in nearly all our patients. For some, this can mean the difference between seeking proper care, and letting oral health problems spiral out of control. Sedation dentistry options, including oral sedation, allow our patients to painlessly undergo even the most intensive procedures, like root canals and dental implant placement.
